The Singularity

A More Critical Analysis Than Most
Most of the books and talks on the Singularity I encounter tend to be either of Kurzweil's wide eyed enthusiasm or of a "Yay humans!" mentality. Coming from a very anti-anthropocentric viewpoint, I find the latter more troubling, in the short term at least, especially since they don't make very convincing arguments against their opponents. As the so called transhumanism movement has some very troubling caveats, I'd rather all involved get their crap together and give it a very hard analysis, something this documentary largely does. There is one guy who thinks that 'running too fast devalues running' is a good argument, but even he mostly has relevant and relatively sane objections and views. And there is something to his argument at least, no matter how clumsily he enunciated it.

My favorite speaker is, as always, Eliezer Yudkowsky, who provides his tempered optimism as convincingly and completely as he always does. His objections to comparing computation and...

Presents Nothing New
This is a shorter version of "The Transcendant Man" It explains less about the singularity and does not give much detail. It even had interviews with the same people from the transcendant man. Just a rehash to make more money.

The Singularity - Intelligent Computers, Future Tech, Nano Tech
Great documentary on the future of computing, transhumanism, nano tech and other future technologies. Will man merge with machines ? What is consciousness ? Can computers become conscious ? These are the questions this documentary asks and according to some of the people in this video, we will be finding the answers to some of these questions sooner than we might think. If you're into cutting edge future tech this was a very interesting video.
